Bringing Real-Time Data to Students, Academics and Facility Managers
The Challenge
Our client, Curtin University, wanted to demonstrate leadership in sustainability as students and staff are demanding organisations operate as good corporate citizens and actively help tackle climate change
The strategy forms part of the University’s plan to attract the best staff and students by using resources more efficiently to improve the appeal of the campus
Avani's Solution
Connected our Avani technology to over 1,500 meters and sensors across the campus
Incorporated data inputs from AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) and the Bureau of Meteorology to provide a holistic view of power consumption and power generation
Made data visible to the users of the buildings, research and teaching staff as well as students and the general public through web-based visualisation
Outcomes
With our technology, Curtin University has avoided 9,144t.CO2 since 2015
Slashed energy consumption at the TL Robertson Library by 67%, or the equivalent of 10,000m2 of photovoltaic solar cells, by modelling the impact of the thermal load of new lighting
Provided Curtin with an ongoing unique competitive advantage through a large-scale living lab that enables staff to use the campus to investigate current energy practices and identify and implement new opportunities in real-time
Reduced power consumption by modifying the discharge profile of the thermal storage tank to reduce the demand on the electrical network at peak times
Informed future campus planning by enabling system capacity analytics for future infrastructure upgrades
